Last November, the first edition of the National Digital Literacy conference was successfully organised. Representatives from various entities held various presentations helping participants focus on this year’s theme; Positive usage of internet. A source of debate was the boundary which an educator should set for himself when online.
During the conference, our key speaker, Mr Karl Hopwood, pointed out that ‘a professional teacher is a responsible adult’. For me this phrase encapsulated the jist around which the conference proceedings should be based. Online behaviour is a continuation to what is done offline. Nowadays we cannot differentiate between offline and online. The values, character, professionalism which a person has will be mirrored in online behaviour. When online such behaviour will be magnified through social media.
