Whilst ‘patching’ up my ECA, I’m realising how SNS are entrenched in the lives of the majority of students. On the other hand schools (not just in Malta) tend to block access to SNS. What does this mean? That SNS are put in the same category of online gaming, porn and other time wasting online addictions?
I believe that this blockage is due to the lack of credibility that SNS have with older generations, therefore with teachers….We cannot control their usage, therefore we block them. Surely its the easiest way out, but is it the best solution ?
And yet, in the corporate sector, there are companies that encourage SNS use for networking. I went to a conference in the summer where several people commented how the law firms they were working for, positively encouraged them to use Facebook for networking.
The student union is also entrenched in the lives of many students, but they don’t want their teachers walking in!
